What clients say...

Stick with it!

I was so happy when my doctor recommended this group.  Alex and Barbara and the entire team are wonderful! My daughter is in a social skill group and has been coming to Dramatic Pragmatics since she was 5 years old.   You have to understand that the therapy involved takes time and has to be reinforced at home and school.  It is important to know that this is a work in progress and you will not see results after a few times of attending group.  So many people move on thinking this is not working and they didn't give it time to work.   Believe me it works over time!

Where Language Competence Meets Social Empowerment

The Dramatic Pragmatics Speech and Language Center is a unique, comprehensive speech, language and social development center that provides an individualized approach to remediating communication disorders for students from the preschool age to elementary school through young adulthood. We offer the highest quality individual and group treatment to individuals with speech, language and pragmatic deficits. Our four thousand square foot charming location in Rye Brook, NY allows our clients to feel comfortable in our "homey" setting. Our center has several individual and group treatment rooms along with two fun recreation rooms.

Additionally, the center is stocked with the latest video game systems and other fun recreational activities that will be used during the less structured portions of groups to facilitate naturalistic, positive social interaction while being coached "in the moment" by Dramatic Pragmatics therapists. Our younger children also will have the opportunity to utilize age appropriate recreational equipment as well. These activities will additionally be used as rewards during session time.

The Art of Talk-Sharing

“I wouldn’t take the approach of shutting the child down and saying, ‘Don’t go on and on about something that only interests you’—that will only turn off the child to conversation,” says Alexandra Lobo, an SLP and co-founder of Dramatic Pragmatics in Rye Brook, New York. “But I also wouldn’t let the child continue to go on tangents about their own interest. The world will be unkind about that. So we need to use the home as a safe space to teach conversational partnering.”
